The Transformative Power of Spiritual Practice

A spiritual practice involves doing an activity that brings about a sense of peace and happiness from the inner, spiritual self. It may range from mediation, chanting, reading a spiritual text, or simply making an earnest effort to become a better person. These activities set the stage for a deep transformatio9n to take place within a person. In this 4-day workshop, Sue Prescott will cover a variety of subjects and spiritual practices. The first day will be devoted to individual, personal transformation. “Filling the Hole in the Soul” will cover spiritual teachings and therapeutic practices to aid people with feelings of emptiness or a lack of purpose, along with depression and anxiety.

Day 2 will cover “Improving Relationships as a Spiritual Practice” and will look at using the higher mind and intuition to better understand others as well as ourselves. Specific skills for relationship enhancement will be taught, including a powerful technique from Paramahansa Yogananda on healing tension in a personal relationship. To top it off, the comforting experience of the Angel Wash ceremony will nourish the participants with support and encouragement.

Day 3 and 4 will cover, “Proven ways to become your Higher Self”. This presentation and discussion will look at the top 7 practical steps that spiritual traditions from around the world teach to purify and tune out levels of consciousness- the mind, heart and body-to become one with the consciousness of the Divine Self. Examples of exercises that will be covered are Pranayama or breath control techniques, various ways to mediate, including a walking mediation and chanting or toning exercises that utilize power of sound.

Just a note, at this workshop, Sue will not be doing any individual therapy work in her presentations, but will be discussing methods for self-improvement in general with participants. Come join us and experience for yourself the transformative power of a spiritual practice!!

Therapeutic Yoga and Sound Healing

Therapeutic Yoga incorporates gentle but strengthening yoga movements. Synchronized breathing, and focused attention. It is a work-in more than a workout. Those with limited mobility could practice seated in chairs. This approach facilitates healing and advances well-being for the whole person: body, mind, and spirit. It is a beautiful way to prepare for one’s meditation practice.

Sound haling creates a space where the participants can reach a state of deep relaxation and access deeper levels of the mind. The vibrations and harmonics of the Sound Bath can help reduce stress and facilitate clearing of emotional energetic blockages.

Perspectives on Bhagavad Gita

This will be a four-day workshop: Wednesday evening opening session. Full Days Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and morning session Sunday.

This workshop will be both a presentation of the Bhagavad Gita and its “core myth” Hero’s journey as well as a forum for the participants to gain personal-psychological value and perspective, with daily guided meditation/self-hypnosis. The Gita is a dialogue between Arjuna and Krishna. Arjuna is a warrior prince conflicted and hesitant to enter battle, and Lord Krishna is the avatar of Vishnu, and he plays the role of charioteer, guru, teacher, and psychotherapist for Arjuna.

The Meridian Exercises

During a post-doctoral research project while on sabbatical, Eugene Jussek, M.D. asked Dr. Mouradian to create exercises for his acupuncture patients that could benefit their healing time. She created non-strenuous stretches along the 12 major meridian channels and became acutely aware of its practical application to maintain fitness for the highly skilled and also for those who can do little more than stretch their fingers. The exercises will be taught during the morning session. Please bring a yoga mat.

As author of Reflective Meditation published by Quest Books and appreciating the mindfulness revolution, Dr. Mouradian plans to discuss in the evening sessions the thought world as presented in the Hermes precept:  Just as dreams are unreal in comparison with the things seen in waking life, even so the things seen in waking life in this world are unreal in comparison with the thought world, which alone is truly real.

Heal Your Self with Writing

We all know the value of psychology in uncovering our deepest feelings and the importance of catharsis in temporarily releasing our pain. Yet while psychological techniques may help prepare us for the journey of healing, they often are not enough to lead us through the deeper way of transformation. Healing without transformation risks re-living negative patterns over and over -sometimes even reinforcing them by repetition, rather than truly putting them behind us.

Finding Happiness & Joy Through Patience and Tolerance

Loosely based on Shantideva’s: A Guide to the Bodhisattva’s Way of Life, this workshop will explore the possibilities of living one’s life in a state of grace, accepting all that comes to one with patience and tolerance. When we recognize that everything that presents itself in our life is directly related to how we have responded in the past and that our future is entirely dependent on how we are responding now, we may find ourselves in a state of freedom, freedom from desire, freedom from resistance, from judgment and disappointment, thus lending us the opportunity to live from an inner peace and happiness with all that is, as it is. This is what we mean by radical forgiveness or radical compassion. Suffering is everybody’s spiritual teacher, but it depends on the complete identification with form. Can we live a life that is free of suffering no matter what happens?

Susan will help us to navigate our way to joy and happiness through patience and understanding with the help of Shantideva’s brilliant arguments, group discussions, short guided meditations, and gentle qi-gong exercises for quieting, focusing and harmonizing body and spirit.
