From a very early age, Nerhys has had a love for all animals, especially dogs. Growing up, her grandmother had at least one dog - two for the majority of Nerhys’ childhood. One of those dogs, an Akita/Malamute cross, even lived with her and her parents for a while. As a teen and a young adult, she was the person at parties who hung out with the dog more than other people.
When not working at her job in the warehouse for a national pet retail brand, Nerhys can usually be found at a horse farm where she has been riding horses for over a decade. At the farm she not only rides and takes care of the various animals, but also occasionally coaches lessons and in the past led camps and children’s programs, teaching kids how to ride and care for horses. Nerhys has further teaching experience from growing up practicing jiu-jitsu and helping to instruct younger children and eventually adults both before and after obtaining her black belt.
When a litter of puppies was born at the farm where Nerhys rides and she decided to bring one home, she knew she needed to get training. Being a mix of Jack Russell, Beagle, Australian Shepherd, and Border Collie, Nerhys knew that without proper training, her high energy dog Artemis would find other, less desirable, ways to channel her boredom, high intelligence, and prey drive. After a search online, she found Eric’s website and knew this was the training Artemis needed. When her parents adopted Artemis’ dad Ozzie from the horse farm, the first person contacted was Eric.
After training with Eric for a couple years on mixed with years of teaching experience and a love for animals, it just made sense to her to start apprenticing with Eric. Nerhys looks forward to starting her journey to becoming a professional dog trainer.
