When applying for Summit you will also require the following:
Identification and/or participation in a gifted/talented programme is not a requirement, nor a guarantee, for admission into Massey High School's Summit programme.)
Sporting progress and excellence should not be at the cost of academic progress and excellence. While Massey High School acknowledges the opportunity provided by the Sports Performance & Development Programme for its elite sporting students, it also recognises that the school is primarily a place of academic learning and that our talented sports boys and girls are first and foremost ˜students"
As such, Sports Performance & Development Programme students will be required to accept and agree to several conditions. The expectations concerning behaviours and academic progress are made clear below:
Behaviour Expectations and Consequences
> Participation in Sports Performance & Development Programme is a privilege and one that can be taken away.
> It carries an added pressure of having to train and perform in a sports code, as well as maintaining academic learning.
> Time management, personal organisation and planning are essential skills to have and to improve on whilst in the Sports Performance & Development Programme.
> Students must follow the behavioural expectations of the school. This is the ONLY acceptable standard of behaviour. Behaviour in and around school will have a bearing on a students position in Athlete Development Programme. A student who is consistently on Daily Report, serving Deans Detentions for inappropriate behaviour etc, will jeopardise his/her place in Sports Performance & Development Programme.
> This programme is offered to high performing athletic students in order for them to gain an edge in their chosen sport. As such, participation in Sports Performance & Development Programme should be taken seriously. Students will be expected to behave in a mature and responsible manner, display a positive attitude towards all aspects of the programme and towards school in general.
> Performance, achievements and behaviour will be evaluated each term and will have an influence on your continued selection for the Sports Performance & Development Programme. Due to the large number of applicants who wish to reap the benefits of being part of the Athlete Development Programme, there is a waiting list of students who will replace those who cannot meet the standards set.
> By signing this contract you understand and agree to abide by the expectations and consequences set. Students who break the conditions of this contract will be dealt with on an individual basis, the final decision resting with the Sports Performance & Development Programme staff and Deans of Schools

Te Whare Āhuru is the name of the Massey High School Te Reo Māori Bilingual Summit Programme. The programme is designed to help empower our rangatahi within an environment based on the core values of our Māori culture. Manaakitanga (to care for one another), Tino Rangatiratanga (Self-determining), Kaitiakitanga (guardianship) and Tuakiritanga (Identity) are cornerstones of our culture. Te Reo Māori and tikanga are vehicles that will help to strengthen these uara (values).
This kaupapa will enhance the achievement of our tauira while also keeping the mauri (life force) of their culture alive. Through this programme the hope is that our tauira will go out into the world to seek the very pinnacle of their dreams, while also being grounded in Te Ao Māori. As Te Whare Ahuru is a summit programme there are key elements that tauira, whanau and kaiako must fulfil in order for our rangatahi to succeed.
Applicants must also provide a record of academic success from their previous school. This should include a letter of recommendation and copies of school reports.cessful applicants are expected to maintain a positive record of learning and achievement, attitude and behaviour. These expectations are monitored throughout the programme.
The programme consists of kaupapa (subjects) such as Ingarihi, Pāngarau, Pūtaiao, Tikanga-ā-iwi, Hauora and Akoranga Koiri (English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Health and Physical Education) that is taught in a bilingual context. This is in conjunction with available staff that can teach with a bilingual focus in Year 9 and Year 10 core subjects.
Application forms for Te Whare Ahuru are available upon enrolment at Massey High School. Please attach letters of recommendation and recent school reports to the application when it is submitted. Enrolments are taken year round and applicants are contacted when a space becomes available.
