1st Step Accounting maintains a listing of the standard fees charged to clients. Since these prices change from time to time, please access the current price list, please visit our website at www.1stStepAccounting.com/current-rates.
Once 1st Step Accounting has received and reviewed the documents needed to prepare the herein described returns, we will calculate the fees necessary to complete the work in your case (based upon 1st Step Accounting’s then current rates) and send you an invoice detailing the cost of the services to be rendered on your behalf. All invoices are due upon presentation. Once the balance due is paid in full, 1st Step Accounting will prepare the said returns.
If the case requires services in addition to the scope of services detailed herein, you will be billed according to then current rates for services rendered by 1st Step Accounting. 4. COST AND EXPENSES
In addition to the above described fees, you will also be responsible for the payment of any and all expenses incurred by 1st Step Accounting in connection with the scope of service herein described. Such expenses include but are not limited to filing fees, administration costs, photocopying expenses, postage, messenger and delivery charges, travel costs, parking fees and other expenses related to this matter.
These amounts will be deducted from any retainer collected at the start of services or will be due with your next bill, whichever is sooner. I understand that other fees, costs and expenses may be applied based upon the circumstances of this case and hereby by consent to my responsibility for the same. Where applicable and at the sole discretion of 1st Step Accounting, these costs, along with any fees earned herein, will be deducted from any funds received in this matter from any source.
5. DOCUMENT STORAGE
In an effort to maintain the highest level of efficiency and security for your case, 1st Step Accounting will scan and store any and all documents received in for tax preparation an electronic format. Since 1st Step Accounting will return all original documents, you are hereby advised to maintain the same in your records for future use and examination. This will provide better protection of your files against theft, fire or other damage/loss. This will also expedite our response time should you require a copy of documents from your file within three (3) years from the date in which your file was closed in our office. Additional copy costs may apply for the copying and/or mailing of your stored documents.

7. SUSPENSION OR WITHDRAWAL OF SERVICES IN THE EVENT OF NON-PAYMENT
Should you fail to pay any and all sums under this engagement within thirty (30) days of presentment or due date, 1st Step Accounting, in its sole discretion, may suspend the services to be rendered in this engagement until any and all balances are paid in full or withdraw completely from this engagement. In the event that 1st Step Accounting must suspend services or withdraw from this engagement as a result of non-payment, 1st Step Accounting shall not be liable to taxpayer(s) for any damages which occur as a result of the suspension or withdrawal of services.
8. INTEREST AND COLLECTION FEES CHARGED ON UNPAID FEES AND EXPENSES.
To the extent permitted by law, you will be charged interest on any unpaid balance unpaid for thirty or more days at the annual rate of 18% (which shall be applied at the rate of 1.5% per month).
Should it become necessary for 1st Step Accounting to engage or retain the services of a collection agency, attorney or other third party to pursue the collection of fees, costs and expenses due in this matter, you will be charged an additional 33 1/3 % of any balances then due and owing to 1st Step Accounting.
9. LIMITATION OF SCOPE OF SERVICES
The scope of services to be rendered by 1st Step Accounting in this matter do not include or extend to:

10. FILING OF PAPER RETURNS.
There are instances in which it is necessary or preferred that your returns are manually prepared (herein referred to as a “paper return”) and submitted to the appropriate taxing authority. Should paper returns be required or preferred, 1st Step Accounting will prepare and provide you with an electronic copy of your return. As the taxpayer, YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE TIMELY SIGNING AND SUBMISSION OF ALL MANUALLY PREPARED PAPER RETURNS. As with any document, it is recommended that you review each return carefully and thoroughly prior to submission.
11. RELIANCE UPON DOCUMENTS PROVIDED
The parties hereto understand that 1st Step Accounting must rely upon certain documents and information in order to fulfil the terms of this engagement. Please consult the attached organizer to obtain the documents need to prepare the above listed returns. As a general matter, we will automatically assume that any document presented by you or your authorized agent are true and correct. This engagement:

12. AUTHORITY AND INDEMNIFICATION
Should the same be necessary, in the sole discretion of 1st Step Accounting, the client(s) agree/agrees to promptly execute any related documents that will empower 1st Step Accounting, its agents and assigns, to obtain any information necessary for the property completion of the scope of services herein. Furthermore, client hereby agrees to indemnify and hold harmless 1st. Step Accounting for any damages, expense, etc. incurred as a result of the authorization granted.
13. EMPLOYMENT OF THIRD PARTIES IN CONNECTION WITH 1st STEP ACCOUNTING’S ENGAGEMENT
1st Step Accounting, in its sole discretion and at its sole cost, may employ the services of other professionals or third parties to assist in the fulfillment of its scope of services.
14. STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS.
The parties hereto acknowledge that there are inherent difficulties in recalling or preserving information after this engagement ends. Therefore, the parties agree that time is of the essence in identifying and resolving any dispute that may arise. To this end, the parties here agree to a reduction in the statute of limitation of the State of Maryland to one (1) year from the end of this engagement and each party agrees to file with the court of appropriate jurisdiction any and all claims arising out of this engagement must be filed within one (1) year.
15. TAX AND OTHER LIABILITY
Any tax liability or penalties determined to be owed by you, shall be the sole and complete responsibility of the client. 1st Step Accounting shall bear no responsibility for the payment of the same.
16. UNCLEAR OR CONFLICTING LAWS
In the event there exists ambiguity or conflict in the interpretation or application of any law, regulation, rule or procedure, it is the intent of 1st Step Accounting to outline, where possible, reasonable courses of action to respond to or resolve the ambiguity or conflict and the risks and consequences for each course of action proposed. As the taxpayer, you then have the right to choose from any of the courses of actions outline or any other course of action of your choosing. Although 1st Step Accounting may propose reasonable courses of action, 1st Step will only proceed as directed by you as the taxpayer.
1st Step Accounting shall not be held liable for any course of action that you may choose.
17. PRIVILEGED COMMUNICATIONS AND INFORMATION
1st Step Accounting hereby acknowledges the privileged nature of communications with its clients which is afforded by the laws of the State of Maryland. To this end, we:
It is strongly suggested that you consult a licensed attorney in your jurisdiction prior to making a decision to assert or waive this privilege.
Should this privilege be asserted, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless 1st Step Accounting, its agents and assigns for any attorney’s fees and other costs (including but not limited to penalties, etc.) incurred by 1st Step Accounting in defending the assertion of this privilege.
18. FULL DISCLOSURE
It is the understanding of both parties that full disclosure of all financial documents and information related to the scope of services herein stated is essential to the proper preparation of documents and information in this case and proper consultation regarding the said returns. Therefore, client hereby warrants that he/she/they will fully disclose any and all documents necessary or the proper preparation of documents and information in this matter.
19. ENFORCEMENT OF BREACH
If either party, his agents, successor and/or assigns institute legal proceedings to enforce any of the term and provision of this Engagement or for the breach thereof, you agree to reimburse 1st Step Accounting, its successors and assigns, should 1st Step prevail in whole or in part, for all necessary and reasonable expenses, plus reasonable counsel fees necessarily incurred in connection therewith.
20. ENTIRE AGREEMENT
This Agreement contains the entire understanding between the parties. This Engagement replaces any prior written agreements between the parties, regarding the items covered herein. No modifications or waiver of any of the terms of this Agreement shall be valid unless made in writing and signed by the parties.
This Engagement is made and entered into with the express understanding and agreement that it be construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Maryland.
22. UNENFORCEABLE PROVISIONS
If any provision of this Agreement is found to be invalid or unenforceable, all other provisions shall continue in full force.
23. UNSPECIFIED COMMENCEMENT OF SECTIONS
Any sections without specific beginning times begin the date this Agreement is signed.
